Laba and Chinese New Year

Today is January 3, 2020, the second working day of the new year. The new beginning represents new hope. There are twelve Chinese zodiac signs that are rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog, and  pig. The 12-year round, this year is exactly the year of the rat, is the beginning of a new round. It represents hope.

Yesterday was Laba Festival. It was the best place for the family to drink Laba porridge.Since ancient times, Laba has existed. The Laba sacrifice at that time was a ritual to worship ancestors and deities (including the door god, house god, house god, stove god,     and well god).

As soon as Laba passes, the Spring Festival is coming. Although both are in China, the Spring Festival in the south and the north are very different. The Spring Festival in the north is a family gathering for a reunion dinner, and then walking through the doors. There is not much activity outside. But in Yunnan, the New Year is very festive and lively. The streets are full of people, and there are traditional folk activities such as lion dance and dragon dance.
